Job Overview
Float nurse position covering multiple hospital units including Emergency Room (ER), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Medical-Surgical (Med Surg), and Behavioral Health (Adult Acute, Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery).
Responsible for providing nursing care across diverse patient populations with adaptability and strong time management.
Works collaboratively within nursing and inter-professional teams to deliver compassionate, culturally competent, and evidence-based care.
May float mid-shift as needed; unit assignment communicated 2 hours prior to shift start.
Typical bed size varies by unit (21-35 beds).
Nurse-to-patient ratios:
ICU: 1:1-2
Med/Surg & ED boarded Med/Surg: 1:5-6
PCU: 1:3-4
Behavioral Health (day): 1:5-6; (overnight): 1:10
Schedule
12-hour shifts (0700-1930 or 1900-0730)
Approximately 36 hours per week
Every other weekend required
Schedule depends on unit needs
Licensure and Certifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Idaho or compact state license
Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – AHA
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Restraint C certification (provided during onboarding)
MOAB 8-hour class and Boundaries 1-hour module (provided during onboarding)
Department of Health & Welfare Background Fingerprinting required (due to Behavioral Health floating)
Skills and Competencies
Ability to evaluate, plan, implement, and document nursing care across multiple units
Assist physicians during exams and procedures
Administer medications and perform patient tests within RN scope of practice
Promote patient independence through education on condition, medications, and self-care
Competent to meet age-specific needs of assigned units
Familiarity with standards of care and procedures within the Nursing Resource Team float cluster
Regular and predictable attendance is essential

Navy blue scrubs
Additional Notes
Candidate must live within 50 miles of the location
Majority of time likely spent in Med Surg and Behavioral Health units, but must be willing and able to float to ER and ICU as needed
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program (BSN highly preferred and required)
Minimum 3 years of nursing experience in all of the following areas (can be concurrent):
Emergency Room (ER)
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) (experience must be within last 2 years)
Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Medical-Surgical (Med Surg)
Behavioral Health/Psych (adult acute, youth acute, addiction recovery)
Experience with cardiac drips
Experience with non-invasive ventilation
